How to measure your window sill

What you need

• A tape measure (a soft tape or a metal tape).
• Paper and a pen, to write the numbers.
• Your phone camera, for photos.
• Someone to hold the tape (optional).

What to write down (same as the quote page)

The quote page uses centimetres. For a straight window sill you need: max length, max width (that is the depth), and the cushion thickness you want. Shapes on the page: rectangle, trapezium / bay, L-shape / notch, or irregular / upload a sketch.

Straight window sill: step by step

1. Stand in front of the window sill.
2. Put the tape on the window sill.
3. Line up 0. Start from the left.
4. Keep the tape flat. Do not let it arch.
5. Measure length: the usable window sill, left to right. Write centimetres.
6. Measure depth: front edge of the window sill to the window or wall. Write centimetres. On the quote page, a straight seat calls this “max width”.
7. Measure twice. If the numbers match, use them. If not, measure again.

L-shape, U-shape, irregular

1. Split the window sill into straight sections.
2. Measure length and depth of each section. Write centimetres.
3. Draw a simple bird-eye shape.
4. Label every side with the number.
5. Do the same for a U-shape or any other shape. On the quote page pick L-shape / notch, or irregular / upload a sketch.
6. There is no extra charge for shape. The first quote uses max length × max width.
